The Making of SpendWise

Build a spending habit by building a City

"

The internet is a noisy bazaar. Everywhere you click, bright red buttons scream "Buy Now," countdown timers induce panic, and one-click checkouts remove the very moment of thought we need to make good decisions.

When we started building SpendWise, we knew we didn't want to build a calculator. Calculators are cold. They tell you what you can't afford. We wanted to build something that told you what you could build, if only you waited.

The Art of "Cooling Off"

You could add products to "want" list in our app, but when user try to add an item to your wishlist, we don't just save a link. We contain a set of Reflection.

"Do you want this because it brings you joy, or because you are bored?"

Once added, the products will be in Hidden state in 24 hours. We wish cooling-off period to help user prevent impulse purchases and shop wisely. After the cooling-off period, you would be guided to reflect on your needs before making a purchase.

Reflection helps you slow down and notice their feelings, motives, and long-term priorities — turning every purchase into a thoughtful decision that eventually build up healthy spending habits.

Building Value, Literally

In SpendWise, money saved becomes bricks and mortar. Your patience builds a digital city.

Habits Built, as your City Grows

It can be easy to give up using the app if only being a boring tool. We want to use a game as a motivation to continuously interact with our app. In fostering sound consumption habits, we employ in-game resources as incentives to encourage users.

  • The Anchor of Time

The longer an item sits in your wishlist, the more "Power Supply" it gathers. If you still want it after 30 days, the app acknowledges it as a true need, not a whim.

  • The Reward of Restraint

Buying immediately gives a dopamine hit that fades. Waiting builds a city that stays. We replaced the "Buy Now" high with the "Build Now" satisfaction.

Tangible Progress

Whether you're checking off a pre-planned list in a physical store or watching your digital city expand on your dashboard, SpendWise makes the act of not spending feel like an active achievement. Just watching your city grow is a reward in itself.
